Quick note: I am going to reply to some of your posts every once in a while, so look back to see other people´s posts after a few days because it is quicker to respond that way! Oh...and I back dated the last post to split up my stories...so another reason to look back!
Antofagasta is a city that looks unlike some you have probably seen, but meeting my house/mother, Rosalinda, and seeing my new house (¡Mi casa es su casa!) was perfect. Nothing I expected and I have been surprised by a lot of events on this trip, but everything was still perfect. Rosalinda has 3 children who are grown and out of the house (sounds like someone else I know) and misses them terribly (sounds like someone else I know)! She is so excited to have Doss and I as guests and sons in her house, so much so that she invited her whole family over for a Chilean bbq. As you can tell some of them have ninas (sorry no tildas or accents on this computer). Rosalinda is the small woman sitting next to me and her two sons are sitting with their children and significant others, while her only daughter is sitting at the opposite end of the picture. They are all wonderful and love to speak spanglish with me, while we all try to figure out each others' languages. The bbq was great, but it was such a long day that I did everything I could to be polite like my mother taught me!
I think I'll post about culture, families and the city some other time...remind me if I leave that out. However, what I got from today was how caring they all are, and what a nice house Rosalinda has made for her family. She is loving and giving, I am very excited!
